Never before have I seen an audience at the Villa Marina so enlivened! Over 60 pepped up Magic of Motown patrons furnished the dance floor on Thursday 1st December with the enthusiasm of true uncritical groupies.

With their wide-ranging vocal capabilities, flamboyant, harlequin costume, striking dance moves and gaudy stage presence, the performers gingered up a fast captivated audience and morphed the Villa into a true 60’s Motown discotheque.

The show is in prevalent demand, having mesmerised 150 UK audiences in 2010 and selling out shows at London’s 02. The group has since played sensational gigs alongside Jools Holland, Lemar, Lulu and Jane McDonald.

Hosting some of those Tamla-Motown greats with seasoned talent and pizazz, the funky sounds hauled the youngest members of the Manx crowd back in time. Transporting every man jack into a place flavour-filled with superb vocal talent, heartwarming, honest lyrics and a psychedelic atmosphere to match.

The smash-hit US show has wowed the most dyed-in-the-wool of British critics after charting Motown’s progressive rise, becoming the world’s greatest record label.

The rich and spicy production revives all-time-favourites like: Stop in the Name of Love; Signed, Sealed, Delivered; My Guy; What Becomes of the Broken Hearted; I Heard it Through the Grapevine; Endless Love; All Night Long; Heatwave; I’m Coming Out; Why Do Fools Fall in Love; Get Ready; Ain’t Too Proud to Beg; My Girl; I Want You Back; I’ll Be There and Dancing in the Street.

There were sixteen dazzling costume changes, thirty-six golden hits and a brilliant live band capturing that original Detroit sound.

The Villa added an obliging touch of grace to the stage, adorning it with a charming Christmas tree to add that seasonal feel to the evening.

Magic of Motown was a marvel to watch. ‘Blame it on the Boogie’, but I had a fantastic night on the emblematical tiles.
